Tips In Properly Sewing Womens Jodhpurs

By Arline Bradley

Any horse enthusiasts know the importance of wearing the right clothes when going horseback riding. Traditionally, the female riders will have to wear womens jodhpurs to be able to ride properly. They are tight around the calf area but full around the seat and thighs. They are usually white colored or cream colored.

It should make you feel more comfortable to ride your horse if you wear this kind of trousers. However, this kind of trousers might not be easy to purchase. There are only a few stores that are selling this. If you wish to have one, you might as well consider sewing your very own pair. Here are the instructions you can note for making your own pair.

First, you must look for an old pair of jeans that you can use for this. The old pair of jeans can be converted into this kind of trousers. When making a choice, you have to avoid those with a double seam. Do not choose those with the flat-felled seams as well. The trousers have to be comfortable around the waist and full around the thighs.

The material you are using with the trousers should be considered as well. It is important to pick ones that are made of heavy materials. This allows you to get better weight and fullness, after all. It makes your sewing task easier, especially around the thigh area. You can get the traditional look for the said horse back riding jeans doing this.

Once you have made your choice, try it on. You have to check that it really fits you. You will also have to check on any adjustments that you might have to do. If there are adjustments, you should mark it out. Wear the pants on the wrong side out to avoid putting a mark on the side that is usually seen by others.

The area around the knee is the most important part you have to scrutinize. Put a mark on that area, since it will become the starting point of where you will make adjustments to make it more snug to the calves. You should ask someone's assistance in this part of the task.

After finishing up with the marking, remove your pants and just lay it flat on your working table. Using your tailor's chalk, make a shape that you want the pair of paints to take. The knee markings should tell you exactly where you should taper. The legs should be created evenly. There should also be an allowance for the seams.

Get your sewing machine. Change the settings of the sewing machine to the longest stitch. Be sure to sew with the machine basting along the lines. Of course, it is common knowledge to sew along the lines on the pants at the wrong side.

Try the pair of trousers you created. Examine each seam, nook, and cranny of what you have created in front of the mirror. You should also try sitting down on them. If they suit you, then you can sew the seams in place. Make the proper adjustments if there is a need for them before sewing the seams.
