Way Back The History Of Professional Wrestling

By Imelda Reid

It is human nature to aspire for something more than what one has. Even if each one has a different set of gifts, there is still this stain of discontentment which settles in the depth of human complexity. That is why no matter what status one is in, there is always an aspiration for something which one does not have, and this fact is very evident in this world where humans live.

And taking into account the dissatisfaction of people, there is a touch in everything which existed in the world. Just like for instance, you will see some individuals who are desperate to have riches, beauty, fame, and influence. But actually, all of these things lead to only one thing. That thing is no other than power. Such is the concept with the wrestling sport even before the history of professional wrestling took place.

Speaking about wrestling, there is nothing you can ever think of but a violent fight showing the physical fortress of the contenders. And since it is a competition, you will see an even bloodier combat. Each competitor uses his most violent attack to turn over the other. And given the inspiration of being acknowledged as more superior, you will see them showing no mercy to their opponent.

That is why if you watch this kind of sport on the stage, you have to be a person who loves to see other people get hurt because if you are soft hearted, you will surely faint. This kind of sport is actually brutal and very violent. Just imagine yourself burning with rage while quarreling with your enemy and you do whatever violent thing you want to do with your enemy.

The same thing happens on the stage where wrestlers play. But thank goodness that even if the battle is brutal, it does not involve any use of weapon. It is entirely a physical combat. The wrestlers have to beat each other with just the use of their bare hands and other body parts. So it is entirely like the Beowulf style. They are only left with their strength and strategy to win the fight.

With this, can use any kind of grappling techniques just like throwing, pinning, joint locks, clinching, and any other kind of grappling holds. Actually, this sport is good for only two contenders. But at certain occasions, more competitors will do. As long as the goal of getting the superior position among the others is fulfilled, then one can become the winner.

There is a wide range of styles with different rules. Every style has its own origin which were taken from both historic and modern influences. With this, its style has been incorporated into some martial arts and military hand to hand fighting style. So to speak, this sport is one of the oldest forms of combat. From the way it is done, you will see that it is the most intuitive action of human defense.

The origin of this sport has even been referenced in literary endeavor by Homer. In the Iliad, which has been referenced to have happened in as early as the thirteenth or twelfth century, the happenings during the Trojan War was recounted. Not only that, it has been said that this endeavor existed fifteen thousand years ago through the drawings in a cave.

And this time, it has already evolved to a formidable sport and a performing art. Now, it is very popular entertainment in Latin and North America, Japan, and Europe. From being a folk sport, it became a professional sport in the twentieth century, emerging from two dominant styles which are the Greco Roman and freestyle.
