Understanding NFL Offensive Rankings And Stats

Winning while betting or in fantasy football depends on the accuracy of your judgment of the actual league. NFL offensive rankings will assist you identify how one team will perform against the other. Their attacking tendencies combine with their ability to defend to give an indication of their chances depending on their opposition for the day.

How teams rank depends on their score. Teams that score higher in a game will obviously rank higher than those that fail to score. However, their progress is likely to be hampered by a weak defense. There must be a good balance between scoring and conceding. Allowing your opponents to score means that you will lose points which affects your ranking.

Yard Per Play is an indication of the portion that each team claims in a game. Top ranked teams have a higher yard per play rating than low scorers. The factors that affect yard per play include first downs, number of points and number of wins. Teams that struggle with first downs have a poor winning record.

Do not be blinded by an impressive first down rating. The ratings do not determine possession and neither do they determine the number of victories. An example is where Cardinals started their season with 3-0 yet were ranked number twenty seven in 2012. This does not mean that they should be ignored. Combining them with Rush Attempts gives you a better indication of the quality of play.

Yards Per Rush earn betters and fantasy players more points. They are a perfect indication of quality play which is rewarded through ranking. Do not rush into conclusion about the Yards Per Rush. Some teams could turn the tables and post better results as the season grows older.

Passing Attempts have proven over time to be crucial in determining the strength of winning and losing teams. An offensive team makes more attempts compared to a defensive team. The Passing Yard also signifies strength and potential. An offender gives you a higher chance of winning compared to a defensive team. A combination of both qualities is better at all times.

Time of Possession indicates the number of times a team remained with the ball. For a team to score and win, it must retain the ball for the longest time possible. A longer period also indicates strength. In some cases, the other team may be better in defense and holding the ball. This is likely to offset an offensive team. A combination of both traits is desired.

Turnover makes a team great or lowers its ranking significantly. Offensive opponents take advantage of the mistakes of the other team and convert them into scores. It takes a better strategy and talented players to become masters of turnovers. Penalties have also turned good teams into excellent teams. It a team can break your penalties, it will stop you from advancing. The secret is to convert all opportunities that come your way. A combination of defensive and offensive strengths makes a winning team.
